WARN/CARN-TB is the network of National Tuberculosis Programmes (NTPs) in West and Central Africa.
It was created in June 2015 in Cotonou (Benin) under the name WARN-TB (West African Regional Network for Tuberculosis control). It was at that time a group of 15 ECOWAS countries in addition to Mauritania, making a total of 16 countries.
In 2018, based on the results obtained by the WARN-TB, the 11 Central African countries decided to join this momentum and set up the network of Central African countries. Thus, CARN-TB (Central African Regional Network for Tuberculosis control) was born in November 2018 in Cotonou.
The two networks merged and are now known as WARN/CARN-TB.
We are promoting exchanges between TB control programmes in the sub-region. This allows the sharing of good practices and peer learning, and creates an environment conducive to multi-country project management.
We are a forum through which NTPs, bilateral and multilateral agencies, as well as private sector and civil society organizations, coordinate and harmonize their activities in the fight against TB in line with the priorities of the sub-region.
We promote operational research in National Tuberculosis Programmes (NTPs) and the effective use of the results to strengthen tuberculosis control in the region. We provide training in operational research and conduct research projects in countries.
We are improving awareness around Tuberculosis by developing a strong advocacy plan to raise awareness of the devastating effects of this disease and thus attract new technical and financial partners.
Our vision is to have tuberculosis elimination targets achieved by all countries in West and Central Africa.
To enable the National Tuberculosis Programmes in the region and bilateral as well as multilateral partners to harmonize and coordinate their strategies and practices in the fight against tuberculosis.
We work in 27 countries, including 16 in West Africa and 11 in Central Africa.
The Executive Secretariat of WARN/CARN-TB is located in Cotonou (Benin).
In each country, WARN/CARN-TB works closely with the Coordinator of the National Tuberculosis Programme and a Focal Point.
Our Collaborative Leadership Team in West and Central Africa Guides and Shapes Our Mission for Tuberculosis Control.
WARN/CARN-TB is led by a coordinating committee represented by co-chairs. There are co-chairs in West as well as Central Africa.
The day-to-day work within the network is carried out by an Executive Secretariat.
The WARN/CARN-TB Executive Secretariat operates under the guidance of the meeting of coordinators and Co-Chairs elected from among the members of the network.
