General objective:
Contribute to improving the favorable results of anti-tuberculosis treatment among patients followed up in 2 CDTs in the city of Bujumbura (CDT Service Yezu Mwiza and Ngagara) by granting extra-medical aid as part of a biomedical and social approach.
Specific objectives:
- Document factors associated with non-adherence and unfavorable treatment outcomes
- Evaluate the impact of extra-medical aids within a biomedical and social approach on favorable TB treatment outcomes better adapted to the situation analysis.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of the social support model among patients and care providers.
Method:
The intervention will consist of nutritional support for TB patients during the intensive phase of their treatment and assistance in developing a livestock-type income-generating activity.
The study will take place in the 2 CDTs in the city of Bujumbura and will comprise 2 phases. In the first phase, the situation will be analyzed, while in the second, the intervention will be implemented. The study will be descriptive, prospective and interventional, with a quantitative component on the impact of the intervention and a qualitative component on the acceptability of the social support model. It will focus on the cohort of 15 TB patients (all forms combined).
Progress :
The study has obtained all the necessary authorizations, the players have been trained, the practical details of the intervention have been defined and recruitment of participants is underway.
