Advocacy with regional institutions for the inclusion of TB control activities is a major activity under the second pillar of the End TB strategy. The WARN/CARN-TB Executive Secretariat has therefore naturally initiated this process, with the major political and health institutions in the West and Central African regions, in order to strengthen the accountability of “domestic” organizations towards the achievement of TB elimination objectives in West and Central Africa. It was against this backdrop that the WARN/CARN-TB Executive Secretariat was granted an audience with the Director General of the West African Health Organization (WAHO) on September 21, 2023 in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
The meeting took place at WAHO headquarters, and brought together the WAHO management team and members of the WARN/CARN-TB Executive Secretariat. The meeting was an opportunity for the WARN/CARN-TB Executive Secretary to present the network, its achievements since its creation, and its challenges. The WARN/CARN-TB Executive Secretary then proposed strategic activities on which WAHO could support the network.
The Director General of WAHO praised the network’s efforts and reassured the WARN/CARN-TB delegation of WAHO’s commitment to supporting this regional initiative.
