Nigeria : Impact of food provision on the treatment outcomes of tuberculosis patients in Nigeria: A mixed-methods study

General objectives :

The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact, acceptability, and feasibility of food provision to patients with TB under programme conditions.

Specific objectives :

·  To assess the impact of food provision to TB patients on treatment outcomes and its determinants in Nigeria

·       To determine the feasibility of food provision to TB patients in Nigeria

·       To determine the sustainability of food provision to TB patients in Nigeria

·     To explore the acceptability of food provision by TB patients on treatment in Nigeria

 Method :

This was a prospective, mixed intervention cohort study.

The quantitative component gathered information on the impact of food support on therapeutic outcome. The qualitative component analyzed the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention.

The food support program lasted 6 months and involved patients on first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs.

Progress :

The study has been finalized and a scientific article is currently being written.
