Training on Implementation Research _ Module 1

Training on Implementation Research _ Module 1

Pillar 3 of the WHO strategy to end tuberculosis (TB) recommends intensifying research and innovation in the fight against TB. However, implementation of this recommendation requires proven expertise in the field, as well as coherent strategies that are compatible with local realities. In this context, the West and Central Africa Regional Tuberculosis Network (WARN/CARN-TB) and the WHO Special Program for Research and Tropical Diseases (TDR), have been conducting a research training program since 2016 to train the network’s National Tuberculosis Programs (NTPs) and country stakeholders involved in tuberculosis control in the fundamentals of scientific research, through a learning-by-doing approach.

In 2024, with the support of the Initiative, Expertise France, WARN/CARN-TB and TDR launched a new round of the Operational Research / Implementation Research training program. Because this training is learning by doing, each national team is invited to work on a research project that addresses one of the NTP’s research priorities. The course follows a modular approach in which four modules have been structured to guide participants through a progressive learning process from developing a research project to communicating the results of the study. The course is available in French and English.

A team of mentors with diverse expertise in OR/IR deliver the training course and coach participants.

Module 1 of the course is dedicated to the development of a research protocol.
